Emaar Properties was founded in Dubai in 1997 by Mohamed Alabbar and has been listed on the Dubai Financial Market since 2000. Its two largest shareholders are the Investment Corporation of Dubai and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The company is best known for Downtown Dubai, the district it built around Burj Khalifa, The Dubai Mall and The Dubai Fountain. Earlier, it developed Dubai Marina, a waterfront district built around a canal of around three kilometres. Its master communities in Dubai also include Dubai Hills Estate, a joint venture with Meraas, Emaar Beachfront within Dubai Harbour, Dubai Creek Harbour, Emaar South, The Valley and Rashid Yachts & Marina at Mina Rashid, developed with P&O Marinas.
Its subsidiaries include Emaar Developments, which carries out much of its residential development, and Emaar Hospitality Group, which runs its hotel business.
Buyers will meet Emaar across a wide range of property types, from city centre apartments to golf course villas and townhouses on the edges of the city.
