Dubai Marina and JBR
Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence together form one of the city's most established residential neighbourhoods. A man made marina lined with towers meets a public beach, and thousands of people live, work and spend their evenings within a short walk of the water.
At a glance
Dubai Marina is an Emaar waterfront district built around a canal of roughly three kilometres, with Jumeirah Beach Residence and its beachfront promenade, The Walk, along the adjoining coast. Both are served by the Dubai Tram, which connects with the Dubai Metro Red Line.

Character
The Marina is vertical and busy, with a promenade that follows the water past restaurants, cafés and moored yachts, and Dubai Marina Mall, opened in 2008, at its centre. JBR, launched by Dubai Properties in 2002, lines the coast with 40 towers in six clusters, Shams, Amwaj, Rimal, Bahar, Sadaf and Murjan, and adds The Walk, a 1.7 kilometre stretch of shops and dining at street level, with direct access to the beach. A pedestrian bridge links JBR with Bluewaters Island just offshore.

Day to day
Few places in Dubai are as easy to live in without a car. Supermarkets, gyms, clinics and restaurants are all close at hand, and the beach and Marina Walk provide space for exercise and evenings out. The Beach at JBR adds shops, an outdoor cinema and water sports, and the XLine zipline runs from the top of an Amwaj tower across the Marina to Dubai Marina Mall. The neighbourhood is lively at weekends, with residents and visitors sharing the promenades.
